The moment that I got married to an active duty Marine officer I knew that my life would be forever changed. I accepted the fact that his commitment to our country would always come first and any career aspirations of mine would be second. When I turned 30, The Miss Universe Organization lifted the traditional marital status and age restrictions. I knew it was a sign from the Universe that they are ready to crown an older, military spouse like myself. I also know that this only the beginning, because if I win, I will use my title to encourage military spouses every where to break the traditional mold and step out of the box that we oftentimes put ourselves in. I will show The Universe what Beauty Without an Expiration Date means. I will prove to everyone that just because you are older now, it doesn't mean you can't do the job that you are qualified to do. I am currently working with various nonprofit organizations to help improve the quality of life of our war fighters, their dependents and our wounded warriors. Although this is such a small effort, I could only imagine the magnitude of my action on a state level, national level or even on the international level if I win the title to represent USA, the beautiful country to which I owe so much.

Beauty Without an Expiration Date is a message and a state of mind.  It is about defying age-limiting opportunities and trusting in your own self-worth regardless of the boundaries which appear to exist in our lives.  I want this message to resonate with others to create a movement that takes off like a rocket ship!  I draw inspiration from Judge Judy when she once stated, “if you didn't make it in your 20s, you can still make it in your 30s.” I see my role as one to advocate for, inspire, and cultivate women from all diverse backgrounds to dream big and the to go out there to pursue your dream!

The biggest lesson that I have learned in life is that through adversity comes great opportunity. Having overcome the language barrier at the age of 11 taught me to be persistent and the perseverance to endure and overcome many obstacles that this beautiful life may throw at me. Pageantry is a great vehicle to help spread my message about Beauty Without an Expiration Date to millions. But I do know that I must have the perseverance to make all of these things happen on my own too. I've done my diligent homework about the organization and what they stand for and I am already at work advocating for all women and veterans from all the military bases that we have been to. I hope that I will have the opportunity to do more on an even larger scale.

I would create a law that prohibits insurance companies from switching coverage of many medical necessities such as daily maintenance meds or cancer treatments whenever they want. Having immigrated to America at the age of 11 from a 3rd world country, I was excited to get a health insurance so that I can get my annual checkup because in Cambodia, that wasn't a thing. Oftentimes we didn't go to get a checkup until we were sick. Once you are sick in my past experience of working in retail pharmacy taught me that private insurance companies can deny your claim as they please and there is nothing the patient can do anything about it but to pay their monthly premium up until their contract with them is due. I have witnessed elderly patients cry because they couldn't afford their medication or their high copay. I knew that if I ever get in a position to do anything, about it, I would do what former President Obama did and make healthcare easily accessible for all and I will put a stop on unethical insurance practices.
